Powerful Women

In case you missed it, yesterday's Wall Street Journal included a full section on 50 Women to Watch--2008. It was a great piece that highlighted 50 successful and powerful women in leadership positions across all industries. It highlighted great progress. I enjoyed the vignettes on each woman, but--of course--was hunting for the representative of real estate. I found her--on the back page--number 49. Celina Antunes, CEO for South America for Cushman & Wakefield, has an impressive record, and is very accomplished. However, the article made me reflect--once again--on how backward the real estate industry is when it comes to opportunity for women. I fear that the current economic malaise is going to further dampen progress as cutbacks tend to reinforce the norm.
